This year, serums and facial oils have revolutionised my skin. If you have read any of my previous skincare posts, you'll be well aware by now that severe dry skin has been a long term affliction of mine. Dry scalp and skin is a classic symptom of hypothyroidism, and my 'mystery skin disorder' (I'm getting very used to calling it that now, hah) definitely doesn't help. The constant dry plaques on my face were just a normality to me, and I'd find myself slathering on the most basic (and oiliest) hypoallergenic cream I could find in Boots. I'd probably do this a few times a day, making sure I had an emergency travel size in my bag at all times. Doing this would not only block my pores and cause undesirable blackheads but also irritate my skin. The thick layers of an already very thick product, left me constantly feeling like I had a weird, slithery mask on, so yeah - not the one.

Fast forwards to 2020, and having gone through 'facial trauma' (doctors words lol) in regards to my skin, I was now determined to explore different ways to keep my skin moisturised and healthy - enter: facial oils. I've been using Gallinee's water based Youthful serum at night, (review incoming), But for the daytime, I felt that I needed something a little heavier - as my skin is now exposed to the elements (the 'elements' = the cold, rainy British weather). Neighbourhood Botanicals are a brand that I've kept my eye on for a little while now, and I can't lie, the cute illustrations and packaging drew me in; I mean, skincare and art? You have my attention. So, I recently purchased their Daily Glow facial oil, and the results already win me over.

The Daily Glow's fresh orange blossom scent gives me the boost I need on these gloomy autumn/winter mornings. It automatically uplifts my mood and brightens my skin while remaining non-greasy. My skin is always in need of extra hydration, so I tend to use this on top of my facial cream (and SPF - don't forget guys, every day). It settles in nicely - giving me a lasting glow until the evening. It's non-irritant, and non-comedogenic (anti-blackhead) qualities make it perfect for reactive or atopy prone skin. The Antioxidants included are ESSENTIAL for improving our collective 2020 mood - so I'd definitely recommend this product as a self-care purchase if the state of it all is getting you down. It is suitable for all skin types - however if your skin is similar to mine, I would use it alongside your usual moisturisers and not on its own. The Daily Glow's stand out ingredient for me would be the Moringa oil - its anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial essence allows it to contribute to the maintenance of a healthy PH balance.

The Daily Glow is 100% natural, cruelty-free, vegan, synthetic-free and fragrance-free (all scent from the essential oils). As if this doesn't already tick most of my boxes, their packaging is recyclable (they are moving towards less eco plastic use AND a refill scheme - see their website for more info on sustainability) and made in a lab in London. So, If you're looking for an ethical independent skincare brand this season of gifting - Look no further!
